Rise in Transit, Exports via Astara Rail Terminal

A total of 365,632 tons of non-oil commodities were transported via Astara Rail Terminal during the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020-Feb. 18), showing a 4% increase compared with the similar period of last year, according to the director general of North Railroad Organization.

“During the same period, around 205,013 tons of goods were exported through the rail terminal, registering a year-on-year rise of 54%. Our main exported products were cement, clinker, chemicals, tiles and ceramics, iron products and home appliances,” Gholamhossein Valadi was also quoted as saying by IRNA.

Valadi noted that imports via Astara Rail Terminal exceeded 135,000 tons over the 11 months under review with the main goods being wood, lumber, pulses and grains.

“A total of 16,000 tons of commodities were transited through Astara terminal. These were mostly wood, lentils, wheat and barley sent from Azerbaijan Republic to Iraq,” he added.
